Intelligent building automation

Who builds Mentivira

ZYONARA SRL, a Romanian company, is building Mentivira: hardware, firmware, radio protocol, operating system and software platform, all developed in house. This page states exactly where we stand, what we have measured and what we have not measured yet.

Product in development. The complete Mentivira solution will be available in 2028.

ZYONARA builds it. Mentivira is the product.

ZYONARA SRL is the Romanian company developing the product. Mentivira is the name of the building automation platform we are building. The two are not interchangeable: the contract, the warranty and the liability belong to the company, while Mentivira is what will be installed in the building.

The company was set up to develop solutions for the digitalisation, automation and energy efficiency of buildings. So far the work has been research and development: technology concept, architecture, hardware prototypes, communication protocol and one test installation running in real conditions.

We are not an integrator assembling components made by others. We design and write every layer of the system ourselves, from the relay in the wall to the app on the phone.

We build the whole chain, from the relay in the wall to the app.

Every layer below is designed and written by us. This is not a list of intentions: these are the components we are developing in the project, each with its own specification and its own tests.

The hardware modules

Switching modules, metering modules and sensors, designed for existing junction boxes rather than DIN rail. One module is designed to switch up to twelve circuits: lighting, sockets, pumps, valves.

The firmware and local safety

The module firmware is written by us, including the safety loops, which are designed to run off local inputs and execute even when the gateway is off. Safety is designed not to depend on the network.

The radio protocol, specified byte by byte

Our own protocol in the 863–870 MHz band, with a normative specification written down to the byte and test vectors that allow an implementation to be verified independently. Encryption and authentication on every frame.

The gateway operating system

Designed as an immutable, signed system image with no package installation on the device, A/B updates and automatic rollback to the previous version if anything is unhealthy.

The software platform and its infrastructure

The management platform, plus the in-house data infrastructure it is built on: the message bus, the distributed cache and the telemetry store, written by us for this platform's workload profile.

The no-code automation engine

Rules are drawn, not coded, and the engine that runs them is ours and is designed to run locally, on the gateway in the building, not in an external service.

One supplier is accountable for the whole chain.

The practical consequence for the customer is simple: one party will be accountable for the hardware, the firmware, the communication, the platform and the updates. There will not be four suppliers passing the problem between them when a relay fails to switch.

Because the specification is ours, a fix can be made at the layer where the fault actually is. Wrong behaviour can be corrected in the firmware, in the protocol, in the gateway operating system or in the platform, without depending on another manufacturer's release calendar.

The manufacturer obligations arising from the European cybersecurity framework — vulnerability reporting and long-term support — fall on us, as the maker of the whole system.

Everything we have measured so far, in one place.

The figures below come from our own tests, on real silicon and on a test installation that is up and running. Each one is marked as measured or estimated, with no exceptions.

−95 dBm
signal through 3 reinforced-concrete floors
Measured on real silicon, in a reinforced-concrete building. The remaining margin is enough for a stable link · measured on the prototype
17,698 frames
72 h of continuous operation, zero CRC errors
Measured on the test bench, in a 72-hour endurance run, with no frame integrity check failing once · measured on the prototype
over 5 years
prototype modules running in our own test installation
Observed in service, under open-source orchestration and over a commercial radio link · own test installation
15–25%
less energy wasted
An estimate, depending on the building profile. It is not a guarantee and remains to be confirmed by measurement at the first installations.

In a home we measured. In hotels and retail, not yet.

Our test installation is a detached house in Cluj county, about 270 m² of usable floor area with roughly 190 m² heated. Prototype modules have been running there for more than five years, but under an open-source orchestration platform and over a commercial radio link — so what is validated is the hardware, not the Mentivira platform and not our own radio layer. The wireless thermostats show an observed battery life of about 405 days on four AAA cells.

In hospitality and retail, the savings figures that circulate in materials like this one are modelled. Ours are too, and we say so plainly: we do not yet have a test installation in a hotel or a shop, so we cannot claim a measured saving there. The figures for those sectors are calculations on consumption profiles, not meter readings.

There is only one way to close that gap: the first hospitality and retail installations are contracted with before-and-after measurement as a mutual obligation. Until then, we do not present a model as a measurement.

What we have not proved yet.

Mentivira is not commercially launched. We have no commercial customers for this product, no customer references and no installations in production. The components are in research and development, with validation on real silicon and a working system running under test.

The certifications are not obtained. CE marking and conformity with the cybersecurity requirement of the Radio Equipment Directive, Art. 3.3, through the EN 18031 standards, are a compliance objective we are pursuing, not a status we hold. The architecture is built to satisfy them and the testing campaign has started, with requests for quotation sent to accredited laboratories.

The 15–25% saving is an estimate, not a guarantee. When we can state it as measured, we will state it with the data alongside.

Certification is under way. The complete solution arrives in 2028.

The order in which things happen from here. Each step has a verifiable outcome, not a marketing date.

  1. Prototype runs and experimental validation

Manufacturing the first runs of the module family, commissioning them, and running the radio protocol validation campaign against thresholds set in advance: coverage in different building types, packet delivery rate, command-to-actuation latency.

  2. Testing at an accredited laboratory

The final measurement campaigns on the product family, at an accredited testing laboratory: radio parameters, electromagnetic compatibility for emissions and immunity, electrical safety, against the applicable harmonised standards.

  3. The cybersecurity dossier

The written dossier supporting conformity with Art. 3.3 of the Radio Equipment Directive through EN 18031: threat model, protection mechanisms and a conformity matrix, item by item. When the certification is obtained, we publish it.

  4. The first installations, with before-and-after measurement

The first hospitality and retail buildings come in with before-and-after measurement as a mutual obligation. That is where our estimates turn into measured figures for sectors we cannot yet back with our own data.

  5. Availability

The complete Mentivira solution will be available in 2028. Until then we discuss zoning, circuits and staging, precisely so that it is not a budget surprise at the end.

Designed in Romania, hosted in the European Union.

Design and development happen in Romania, in a Romanian company. The platform side will be hosted in the European Union, and the system is designed around the European regulatory framework: data protection under the general regulation, the cybersecurity requirements for radio equipment, the manufacturer obligations under the cyber resilience act.

The practical consequence is not a statement but an architectural property: building telemetry and history are designed to stay on the gateway in the building, with only the messages needed for coordination, administration and updates travelling outward. The architecture has no location outside the Union where your building's data would end up.

The second consequence is more mundane: the supplier sits in the same jurisdiction as the customer. Contract, warranty and liability are enforced here, not through the terms of service of a company on another continent.

If you install electrical systems, we have something to discuss.

We will not do the physical installation. It will be done by the electrician or installation firm near the building, following our zone schematic and checklist, with our assistance during the fitting. We will not require a certified integrator and we will not require manufacturer training.

For an electrical installation firm, that means new work on the existing wiring, with no construction site and no rewiring, plus a customer relationship that stays with the firm: whoever fitted it remains the customer's contact for interventions.

If an installation partnership interests you, there is no separate form. Use the same email field on this site, under "Notify me when it is available", and say that you are an installation firm. We will get back to you for the partnership conversation, not with marketing material.
